what oil to use for t50?

Postby l1ttle_d3vil » Mon Apr 11, 2005 10:23 pm

hey, what oil is the best to use for a T50 box? earlier model i think - if it matters.

can you just use multigrade engine oil or does it need a specific sort of oil? if so, which oil??

cheers

whoa whoa, dont put engine oil in there, lacking heaps of the extreme pressure additives, you need manual gearbox oil, theres alot of fuss about whats best but you cant go wrong with:

mobil gear lube 75w-90 8)

Or castrol VMX.

As long as it's says Manual Transission oil on it, it'll do.

oil preferances are up to individual peopl on what they use

okay  i was told that some newer gearboxes would run sweet on engine oil, but i wasn't sure how "new" new is or whether this was true at all.

cheers

wouldn't engine oil run to thin when the box is hot and cold? :? engine oil rated at 20-50w and gear box oil at 75-90 or somthing like that. and that can't be good can it?

I've got VMX in my K50. The box seems to run real nice on it. Had some other bollocks stuff in there before.

hmm, dunno about that, some honda gearboxes use some wacky oils.

engine oil has been designed to be able to be "wiped" off where as diff/man. gbox oil is designed not to be able to be wiped off. theres a couple exceptions though with torsen diffs and the like but i dont think its really nesassary to go there. :)
