MR2 Fuel consumption?

Postby viking » Tue Apr 12, 2005 12:39 pm

Hi,

I do 360km/week half city half highway and get 10L to 100km in my current car. I'm investigating another and looking at MR2's.

What do people get in 2L and turbo models for their economy? spirited driving of course :)

Cheers

Mine is a 90 Non turbo, I get about ~400km out of ~40 litres
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

50 litre tanc here (i think lol), with my driving... probbaly 300km's to a tanc.

then again, we do drive this one hill... which has probbaly alot of petrol residue on the edges of the road.. due to my, spirited driving :D.

boost uses petrol :D.

Hmm, maybe my cars consumption is better than I thought? (2.5L inline 6).

How easy are the MR2's to work on? engine wise, comes out the bottom or out the top?

MR2 1990, non-turbo, 260KM to a tank of 96, but then again it's got some issues.

The mechanic that did the tune up did mention they aren't that economical on fuel.

lol they are a lot eaiser to work on then subies where you have to take out the mainfold just to replace sparks :? but it is a tight squeeze when working on the mr2

Bit of a shame they arent as efficiant as I thought they would be. Trying to work out what project car to do. Was thinking of turning a MR2 into a daily driver, but its just as economic as my current car. So in that case its either a MR2 turbo for a project car, or a M3 GTR.

So many choices, so little money ;)

I know in my car, I used to get from blenheim to christchurch on a little under half a tank, thats roughly 300k's? So maybe 550ish k's per tank?
Round town is obviously worse, as you're in lower gears, therefore on boost more :D

I use 98 in my N/A. Doesn't give better power but engine runs smoother and has pretty much no pinking under load that it had on 96

Caldina's, Celica's and MR2's have the same 2.0L engine, 3SG(T)E.

Yeah, I haven't come across a single Subaru you need anything other than airbox and washer bottle out to get at the plugs
