To run what? How much power do you need?

always a price to pay when putting in a higher output alternator tho. More engine strain, more peddy.

you can actually get an alternator rewound to produce more current. Normally looking at atleast $400 including rebuild I think.

Incidentally SW20 MR2's have quite meaty alternators. Couldn't tell you exactly what the output is, but they are physically much bigger than a standard Toyota alternator, and although they would require a new mount to be made (only on one end though), they would be a reasonably simple upgrade. The reason they are so big is that they have to drive the electric power steering pump, which most Toyota's dont have

SW20 alternator... will keep that in mind...

Ummm... Was thinking about 120-150 amp I guess. Not really interested in a rewind. Something aftermarket.

Oh yeah.
4AGE AE85.5
Wanna upgrade alternator cause I'm now got an Electric Water Pump, as a side effect the heater in my car no longer works very well (non-continuous/non-constant water flow), so I either need another little water pump for the heater or make an electric heater system.

Yeah. Thought of that. But I think it might be more difficult to site another one rather than just modify mounts to fit a bigger one...

There would have to be something wrong with your factory 4AGE Alternator for it to fall over under the load of a waterpump! They are pretty good! What trouble are you having? If you are just set on the idea then I have a high output Lexus one that will go on with few mods. 8)

Alternator isn't falling over. It handles fine (pump on adds 6A at max flow...).
It's cause my heater doesn't work very well anymore (flow issues due to electric waterpump) and I was wondering how to fix it.
I had two real options. A separate little water pump to circulate water through the heater core or making up some form of electric heater. I was thinking of the electric heater option but would have to get a bigger alternator to stand up to the potential current draw.

So this is just a pricing check.

Electric heaters are a waste of time.
The only effective one I've seen was on a SAME tractor that was air cooled.
It has it's own alternator to run it and drew just under 100A to make hot air. It had to have battery cables running to and from the element.

If your elec water pump doesn't flow enough to run water thru the heater, does it flow enough thru the engine?

Civic Wholesale stock a wide range of new aftermarket alternators, most models come in a range of outputs. I havent got any contact details for them anymore but Im sure you can find a number somewhere.

Pity it's STILL struggling

I had funny suspicion that an electric heater setup wouldn't really work. A bathroom heater is usually around 1100-1200W, but in a car you can't realisitically make more than 500-600W without need stupid amounts of stuff. Oh well..

And yes my EWP flows plenty for the engine. It's the flow characteristics. It flows a lot less than the mechanical because it's maintaining the temperature rather than just pushing water. Basically when I boot it the heater works fine (pumps starts to flow more), and when i cruise it doesn't work that well (flow drops to low rate)...
