ae101 alternator

does the alternator have top be plugged in fully with the grounding terminal (wire to battery) and all for a car to start. got an ae101 put a new engine in tried to start it but all we here is the starter motor clicking but got the wrong alternator so havent plugged anything on it. should it still turn over?

With no alternator plugged in, were is the car supposed to get it's power from?

get the power from the battery? we just wanted to turn it over to see if it would work got the wrong alternator need a new one or swap plugs over just wondering coz if i know thats why it not turning over can get my car going in the weekend

If the battery is fully charged it will. But if the battery is low, it it will not have enough power to run fuel injection etc. So in theory wouldnt start, just tick over, or cough and splutter, miss...

Thats the way the mechanic here explained it.

No. A car wil start and run fine with no alternator ( for a while anyway )
as long as there is enough power in the battery.

(And if there is not enough power in the battery having a good working alt wont help anyway as it still wont start.)

Up until the point where the car is running, the alternator has no purpose and is not needed.
