Need help from Caldina experts....

Postby cel3sgte » Mon May 02, 2005 7:40 pm

Anyone know if there's a difference between the Caldina's coil pinout on a 3SGTE compared to a U.S. spec Celica 1ZZ?

I have 8 Caldina coils that all do the same thing. When I turn the engine off, and the engine is hot, the coils shutdown. When the coils cool, I'm able to start the engine again. But now, I'm using coils from a Celica 1ZZ and I don't have this problem.

The engine is running on a stand-alone Nemesis system.

Just wanted to see if anyone can tell me if the pin wires are different.

Thanks,

AFAIK the pinouts are the same, however the dwell time requirements are different.

The symptoms you describe are probably due to running too much dwell and overheating the coils. I'm not sure what the correct dwell time for the Caldina coils is but I would suggest trying 1.8ms and going from there.

The only data I can find (from Motec) for Toyota COPs doesn't state which engine the plugs are fitted to, but being that it's from the US site I would suspect it's not the Caldina, but I don't know what the Caldina part # is, anyway just in case it's of any use;
Toyota Coil on Plug (Denso) 90919-02239 (COP).2.1mS

Thanks for the info fivebob. I check the dwell settings on my ECU. I checked the part number on the coils.. it's 90919-02227, from a '98 Caldina ST215. Could you check that out for me?

Thanks again for all the help..

Hey Mr Revhead...

Should the dwell setting on these coils be the same as 'fivebob's' part (listed above at 2.1ms)?

Thanks
