Carbon Fibre Bonnets and Boot Hatchs

Postby BigDon » Sun May 08, 2005 2:29 pm

Guys has anyone had any experience with the above and have any idea what sort of prices I would be looking at for an AE101 FXGT. I know it will be semi expensive if it's possible.

Im also interested in a 2nd hand Lexan window set for the car (if they were made) which I believe can be used on the road if you have a MANZ card?

Any info would be appreciated.

ChaosAD, yeah I had a look on trade me and couldnt find one for an FX. Thanks for the pointer though.

Your best bet for these items, especially for this car, is to go custom made.

Theres an outfit in Wingate in the hutt called Carboglass. Alot of their work can be seen on the likes of DOCILE

hey my brother works with carbon fibre and he can custom make one to any size/shape that you're after.

the prices should be a lot cheaper than going through some companies as they mainly deal with boating carbon fibre.

he can basically make anything out of carbon as long as he has a mould for it so if you are intrested, give me a bell.

thanks

deinmuter thanks for that, I might see if there is any interest from other FX owners for a bonnet and may be boot hatch and get a few people together.

Dumb question but, I take it to make a mould your brother would just need a bonnet and if so, would this bonnet get wrecked in the mould making process?

Just so I can find out if other people might be interested, would your brother have an indicative price to make a bonnet i.e. based on X number of square metres of carbonfibre, materials and his time?

Cheers

How's about an engine bonnet for an SW20?
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

hey all

anything is possible, grilles, scoops, vents etc at an extra cost of course

i will find out whether the original bonnet will be damaged or not upon making the moulding...i dont think it will but ill double check.

also im finding out a few prices on bonnets for EP91 starlets cause someone pm me about it.
obviously one off orders are gonna cost a lot more than a group of 5 or so.

not only limited to bonnets, can arrange any part to be made like bootlids, side skirts and bumpers, juist need to make a mould of what you want first!

i plan to get some skirts and bumpers made up for my AE85 int he future...

if you are genuinely intrested, text me on my phone as im not online very often to check my messages.

AXNGRL i will find out a price and let you know by PM

thanks

so what your saying is that ... if i can get a original piece (for example a panel) you can use that to make the mould and then make subsequent pieces ?

GTCRSHR: Im keen for a bonnet and boot lid, but would have to rely on some one in Aucks sorting out a mould because I'm in Wellys. What would you be interested in? Also does sny one know what an AE101 FXGT bonnet and bootlid weigh?

Cheers

i'd say a bonnet weighs around 20 -25kg... and a boot would probably weigh twice that with its glass and trimmings on
