Map Clamp

Postby SIDE_FX » Wed May 18, 2005 1:42 pm

hey i figure that all a map clamp is a zenon diode (4.7v) thus any voltage higher than 4.7v's will come out the other end as 4.7, so putting this in the wire that goes from ur map to ur ecu wit a varrying voltage will trick the map into think that its not running boost we tried this on my mates turb civc and it worked!!!!!!! unless u sit on 0 psi anyone now why this is???

Dude seriously....you have a whole keyboard sitting in front of you and you are posting on a forum. Type your words out fully...you're not trying to send a text to anyone.

Makes it alot easier for other people to read and to try and understand what you are saying/asking.

I think you mean zener diode.

A 4.7 volt zener diode will output 4.7 volts providing the input voltage is atleast slightly higher than 4.7 volts.

Im not quite sure what your asking but if the current or voltage goes too high, as per specs of the diode, then output voltage will start changing quite a bit (and smoke will come out). If the input voltage is too low then there will be little to no voltage comming out of the diode.

now dude seriously u have a key board infront of u why dont u find something better to do than policing my grammer, i have a sprained hand (wanking incident :P) and thus must type with one hand so it is easier for me to type short hand, and dude if u dont have an answer to the question in the topic dont say anything :D

Zenor's are a bit crude to use as a fuel cut defender, spend the money, get a proper fcd, it could save your engine

it not a fuel cut defender its just to stop the ecu reading boost, but still read full throtle, we have a extra injector but yeah its reads boost nd goes into limp mode :P

You could piss around with that, but it seems like a lot of hit and miss, when your engine is at stake, you don't want to rely on a 50c diode.. an engineer friend of mine had a Honda turbo done on a budget, it was easily done, was a couple of years ago now, I'm pretty sure its' still getting round with the same setup.

From memory, there was a one-way valve on the map sensor line, (so it could only sense vacuum, and would shut under boost) A boost-indexed (rising rate) fuel pressure regulator, injectors from a 2L (?) motor, cut and re-welded n/a exhaust manifold, and press-bent steel intercooler piping. Ran a tad rich, but was reliable on low boost. No ecu mods. Last time I saw him, he was talking about getting the factory ecu remapped to get it running decently, but haven't heard since. In fact, I'm gonna ring him tomorrow! :D

The guys at garagedori have turbo'd a few bluetop 4age's on standard ecu's and gotten good results: http://www.garagedori.com/tech/4age_btecu.php

Could ask on their forum how they got around it or one of them may reply here.
