Clutch Slippage?

Postby AJz » Thu May 19, 2005 3:11 pm

Hey

Car needs new clutch soon but i just wanna make sure that this is the clutch in my car. I can feel it slipping really bad so i knw theres not much left in it.

So yea, when taking off from intersection, in 1st, the car shudders, almost like its losing grip and then griping intermittently, like on and off, on and off really fast. I take it this is another sign of, "YOUR CLUTCH IS FUKED, YOU MIGHT WANT TO THINK ABOUT REPLACING IT" lol

Once moving its alright, its just gettin the car from a standstill, to 15 kmh that it shudders.

I basically dont want to end up replacing the clutch, and then find theres something else that needed to be done while the gearbox is out.

(note: i have done a search but it doesnt bring up any helpful info on what im asking)

Anybody?
I had vtax :(

go up a slope in 4th, keep your foot down on the gas and release then drop engage the clutch. if its ok, it will bite hard and pull, if its on its way out it will slip and not grip properly.

can get shudder from the pressure plate if its worrn/warped/broken- you will replace this also when doing the clutch anyway however (or you should replace it that is)
Cant believe im still a member here.

clutch shudder could be two things. worn pressure plate or warped flywheel. You cant tell till the gearbox is removed. look for hots spots on flywheel and check the surface of the flywheel. may need machning
want a ae86, dont want to pay 8 grand for one
have to settle for my ae92

If the clutch isnt very nice to do you might as well just get the flywheel done at the same time. Nothing worse than putting it all back togeather to fine you still got shudder. Happened to me & oldman lucky it was just a crappy old pulsar out in half hour :)

edit: if your getting it done provatly ie by a mate or something let me know i got a mate at BNT that will do flywheels for nothing.
