superstrut suspension

Postby newby » Wed Jun 29, 2005 3:34 pm

Hey guys,

is anyone able to tell me about superstrut suspension?

I have a rolling shell with superstrut suspension stickers on the side and am wondering if the suspension will fit in an Levin without superstrut suspension. What's the difference? Both Levins are AE111's.

Cheers

Susperstrut suspension costs a hell of allot more to fix than normal non superstrut suspension does.

Non superstrut also is cheaper and easier to get aftermarket parts for.

I think superstrut has one extra susp (?) arm.

if you have s/s theres no point changing it unless your looking making a race/rally car.
for a road car you only need to replace bits every 80 odd k. and its cheaper to fix than replace.

if you have a s/s car and a complete donor non s/s then its feasible.
leave the rear and just do the front.

hubs and brakes are different on the front too so you may need to swap the brake porportioning valve aswell.

Yeah, i think thats the go.

My advice: Keep your non s/strut suspension in there. Dont change it as it will not give you any significant benefits and the conversion would be a waste of your time and money.

Put your money into a set of Aftermarket Coilovers, as they are heaps cheaper for a non s/strut, and upgrade your discs and pads. You will get more handling benefits from this than a s/strut conversion ever could in standard form.
Your Opinion Means 1/16th Of Stuff All To Me So Dont Bother Arguing With Me About It As I Just Dont Care.

Thank-You.

Before everyone gets carried away on giving advice, this is what newby is trying to do.

He has a AE111 Levin Rally car (non super strut) which is very badly damaged.
He's found a rolling shell that is a superstrut model and if he can swap the suspension over this may be a better alternative to repairing the existing car.

So he wants to know what is involved in swapping the suspension over between models from somebody who has actually done it.

brake valve IS different between s/s and non s/s

subframes are the same. just swap the bits over.
if the bits are still ok, look at fitting the s/s brakes.... thems bigger

Bang on TRD Man. We have the superstrut model and I was wondering if we could transfer any of the suspension bits from it into our rally car.

I have since found out that most of the bits won't fit, so we'll probably sell them and buy some non-s/s replacement stuff.

hey did you read whay i said? it all swaps over.....
the arms, struts and hubs etc.. the chassis is exactly the same so of course it fits!
forgot to add you may need the subframe as well i think 10k20v stated in another thread you dont have to though.

so if you have a roller there and wreck you can swap it over easy.
as long as all bits on ya wreck are ok enough!

Hmmm - well we're starting the panelbeating and rebuilding of the car this week so we'll whip out the s/s suspension and try it out. Hopefully we won't need to replace too many bits though.

Cheers Mr Revhead - we'll be in touch if we need any more bits. Hopefully it should all be back together in time for HB.
