Anyone got a aftermarket Rev Tacho fited on a 4agze?

Postby seca4agze » Thu Jun 30, 2005 10:53 pm

iam having problems fiting my spitfire tacho to my 4agze, i have it all connected but i dont know which coil it goes to, theres 4 coils i have iam having troubles,

also the needle is very slow, so if iam reving at like 5rpm the needle is still on 2rpm, so its denyed, i know the problem its connected to the wrong coil, but which coil does it go to.

SO anyone got a diagram to install a Tachometer onto a 4agze motor please let us now

Thanks

wouldnt it be reading slow cos its only reading the ignitionpulse from one cylinder?

i think youlll have to find the feed from your ecu for your factory revcounter and use that.

or i could be completely wrong.

Its a twin coil setup rather than 4 coil and you'll probably be getting half the revs showing up than what you're actually doing because the trigger is only firing the coil half as often as if you had a single coil.

I'm pretty sure you need the likes of a VR4 tacho interface to get it working properly

you cannot hook it directly to one of the coils as there is two coils so it will only read 1/2 the revs unless you can set your tacho to suit a 2 cylinder (not likely it will)

Or you can fit a Tach Adapter off a misi,

it just happens i have one for sale if you want,

or you will need to wire it directly to the ecu and hope the signal is strong enough as it wont run all brands of tachos'.

tacho feed off the ecu isnt strong enough.

What you need is a tacho interface off a Mitsi VR4 it takes one output from each coil and converts it into a signal your tach will handle. see below:

Two ways to possibly sort your problem:-

1/ Run the output from the ECU through a small op-amp to boost the signal. Maybe Jaycar have a suitable circuit for this purpose.

2/ Obtain an aftermarket tach with a switch to select the number of cylinders. Set it at "2", and run it off one of the two coils on the 4agze.
