changing into 2nd gear problems

Postby dunamis » Tue Jul 05, 2005 10:36 pm

Hey,
i have a 96 ae111 levin
When changing into 2nd gear, i get this bad sounding crunch, it mainly does it when the engine is still cold, and when changing fast.
If i change gears just average speed to slow its fine.
All other gears are fine. A mate said its the syncros, and maybe trying a thinner gear oil may help.
The car has done 100,000 ks

I did a search but i found nothing that helpful really.

Yeah sounds like the sycros are on the way out.Its a common toyota prob.Try using some syntrax or atf, and if it doesn't help then replace the sycro's or get a good second hand box :D
To finish first, first you must finish

yea its your syncro, i have just done my one in second gear, depending on the inside, you might have to get a new bearing to, which if it was one like mine, they dont stock them in in new zealand and cost 250$ from japan
