Well thats debatable.
I havent seen a gen3 3sge in person, only a Gen 2. but the money you would save buying one over a redtop/blacktop 3SGE would be false economy IMO. I mean you need to spend money just to get it up to the amount of power that the VVTI motor makes in standard form. And then you are going to have a peakier engine, whereas the VVTI motors retain a decent spread of torque.
As Celica RA45 has stated before, he has some crazy cams in there, and the car still idles like a street car.
This would be impossible to acheive with a gen 3.
My redtop 3SGE has a port and polished head and some aftermarket extractors, should be good for 210 flywheel HP perhaps? I dont know to be honest. Well hopefully at least the factory 200hp anyway.
The redtop 3SGE intake manifold is superior to any cast item.
Its made from pressed steel, with tubular steel intake runners, that flare out to bell mouths inside the plenum. I bet you would have to spend a fair bit of money to get a cast gen 3 manifold to flow as well as that. Unfortunately I cannot comment on the head, as I havent had a chance to have a good look at it yet.
Since I will have access to both motors in peices, I am going to bust out the digital calipers and document the differences I can find between the redtop and the gen 2 at some stage. I might even produce a cad drawing or three.
Because there doesnt seem to be much redtop info around on the net.
No doubt I will post my findings on here when that time occurs.
