Oil pressure gauge

Postby Andy from the block » Fri Jul 15, 2005 9:53 pm

Iam considering purchasing an oil pressure gauge (electronic) and
was wondering if its just a case of hooking them up to the
oil pressure sender? I have an oil pressure sender on the oil inlet of
my turbo which currently is hooked up to the oil light on the dash.
Do I just unplug that wire and hook up the gauge instead?
Cheers

not necessarily, most guages require a brand specific sender to make them read true.

as fangsport says, the sender is brand specific most of the time. out of the handful ive done, 1 read ok off the factory sender (was a temp, not pressure), the others didnt. When you buy a gauge, most come with the sender anyway. You could also get a t piece so you can run both if you wish also.
Cant believe im still a member here.

Yep as above, an oil warning light is an open/closed type switch when an oil pressure gauge sender is variable resistance (to give a variable reading) if u buy an autometer one they come with a sender which is just a case of replacing the original, or getting a 'T' type joiner so u can use both senders.
