They've canned this idea for now and are doing a visual inspection instead

You'll find a hell of a lot of places will do that, it just serves as a record they passed it with a modified exhaust. Mine always gets that written on it, along with 'standard wheels' because they realise it usually sits on non-standards so they do that to prove they passed it on standards, and can't say its WOFable on the aftermarket rims.

I don't know if its new or not but they also check rear wheel bearings now. When I went for a warrent (last week) they told me it was a new law to make it compulsory. Before it was only the front.

It only takes a few seconds to check them, might as well just do them when the car is off the ground

as far as I'm aware they check all four - at least the guys I assist do - and I've known them since the beginning of the year

All wheel bearings must be checked for a WOF and this has been the case for a while.

To the word of the law you can fail almost all of our exhaust systems! But you will find that most inspectors are humans and realistic people and as long as it is not 'crazy' loud then you will be ok.

It will often be noted on the WOF sheet that the exhaust was modded and also thnigs like what size wheels/tryes are on the car due to fact that it covers 'our' arse.

The Emissions and Cat Laws are not going forward at this stage and there is no dates set for any of this. 8) :D 8)

jet go to a non mainstream garage

Postby shaggz » Fri Jul 22, 2005 1:29 pm

if yuove got a modified exhaust they are getting a bit wanky over the whole subject especially next year with the new emission standards coming into play around april, if yuo go to a wof issuer thats not say ltnz or aa or on road new zealand chances are they will not worry bout it, of course im not endorsing going to a shady garage if yuor cars a heap of shitzue jst so yuo can get a warrant
drive it till it breaks, then upgrade it

last i knew the concern in terms of panel beating wasn't some much whether it had been done and who did it and more whether the structural itegrity of the car has been affected - eg rust in places such as the a pillar

besides, i know a couple of guys (apprentice mechanics) who've done their own panel beating and don't have problems getting wofs
