Caldina gt-t - handles like a Dog!!

Postby steve74 » Thu Jul 21, 2005 11:06 am

hi, my caldina probably handles ok for a 2litre station wagon, however in standard form with standard wheels and tires, the body roll is way too much. now not being an expert, i assume a set of 17" wheels and tyres will help as the 15" items i have are like baloons. my question is, is it worth lowering it any? if so by how much and also are struts required. im not after the "boy racer dumped to within an inch of its life" look, just a subtle drop to reduce a bit of guard gap and fix the wicked under steer and body roll.

any pointers on the best value for money parts to use and price to do so would be awesome!!

cheers, steve

yeah a nice set of lowered springs , not super lows wood help the situation a little , u could either go for a set of kings , dobi or see if warwich does sum trd springs for it , if u do say a drop of 30 - 40 mm and a nice set of 17 inchs should get u sittin a bit prettier on the road , without looking like the boyracer , low as u can go look 8)

mate of mine has one, he had the same problem, so i got him a set of the TRD springs, they dropped it around 30mm and made a huge difference, he was contemplating sway bars but decided not to after fitting the TRD springs. email for a deal 8)
the other thing to think about is they kays its done, are the shocks still working ok?

you should probably look at upgrading the shock absorbers first off as they make the biggest difference to how your car handles

towbar does the jobbie for me
i need new shocks tho...my rears are leaking and thudding (see other post)
someone told me kings dont do caldina springs, but mine are yellow...hope some hory hasnt cut them and painted them yellow

EDIT: i cant spell
EDIT2: i have a parcel blind thingee too (thanks to Mr Revhead :D)
you could easily make something up to fit into the parcel blind position to act as a rear strut brace if you havent got a blind
i might actually make some up and sell them if anyones keen :)

springs out of the earlier model caldina st205? are also the same. my bro has lowered dobi's out of his mates 4wd caldina (if that makes a diff) which makes it ride pretty firm (even with std shocks) it sits alot lower than kings. have put it side by side with another dina fitted with them

kings do not make a specific spring for the caldina , Edgar from george stocks supplied some kings for my mates caldina, which are infact corolla springs . They $&#$% the shocks and completely destroyed the bump stops because the spring rate is calculated on the corollas weight not the 1470 kg the caldina weighs in at. so stocks gave full refund and have not manufactured springs specific for the caldina..
