ae92 trueno vs ae92 corolla, will the suspension mate?

Postby Psycho_Dad » Wed Jul 27, 2005 1:30 am

ok i just bought some dobinsons front springs and monroe front reflex strut inserts from a dude with a ae92 corolla nz new(4a 1500cc carby powered jobbie)
question is? will these inserts and springs mate with my 1989 ae92 trueno struts? if not i can return them, but i would really like some decent front suspention for my runabout

any ideas? if they dont fir do you think the ae92 corolla gti(i think its a gti) struts(whole thing) would fit into a ae92 trueno

any light shed on this would be terribly appreciated

cheers

they are the same between the levin and the corolla , but the top stut hats may be slightly different , no biggy . But in ur corolla do u have standard shocks or aftermarkets , as some of the aftermarkets are a sealed strut not one tht requires an insert , so check this b4 commitin to it 8)

im not 100 % sure but i think those werent actually inserts , have a look on the struts and see if there is a nut at the top of the strut where the shaft for the shock comes thru 8)

u can get front standard shocks from an ae82 tht r inserts which is wot i believe they possibly are for but if u use tht then u will also have to use the hubs with it but tht aint a bad thing cause then u get adjustable camber in the front if u use them 8)

ok well it turns out that i undid the bolt at the top of the shocks and oil pissed out of them, now theirs some plate with 3 or 4 holes in the top staring at me.... and the inserts seem to be a good 8mm skinnier than the shocks themselves???

so im turning to the options
a)replace oil that spilled out with gear oil, reassemble so i can pick my g/f up at 3
b) keep gutting the suspension, keeping in mind that i may end up with completely unrepairable shocks and struts, i have to drive 175kms tonight
c) take the shock to a shock shop, inwhich im very confident they will tell me it wont fit anyway
d) what you recommend, i dont know jack about this, wish i did

im losing time,
Peace

It's not uncommon for the inserts to be narrower than the body of the strut you're putting them in.

Try installing them and tightening the nut down. If there's no movement in them they should be OK.

Go to george stock and co , but u will need to know the thread type as there is three different types , or if u can take in the sample and they will be able to get it from tht 8)
