Front Mount and Plumbing for GZE?

Postby Crucible » Thu Jul 28, 2005 11:36 pm

I am fitting a 175 mm pulley (12psi) and about to get together parts for front mount setup, (94 AE101 GTZ). Ive heard VR4 intercoolers are best suited because of their size.

I bet a few guys here have done this so just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction as far as intercooler size and plumbing dia goes.

My main concern is Lag, Will I suffer much with say a 550x250 int and say 2" dia piping???, Too big maybe??? Im just going to use Mild steel pipe as I can use a work MIG.

Any pointers/help would be appreciated

oh yeah...are 4age/gze timing covers interchangable? Dont want to grind my original covers to fit me pulley :?

Thanks in advance

no need to grind thwe timing cover, just cut off the timing pointer.

as for piping use 2" the shortest route possible, a vr4 cooler is fine.
and use as little silicone hose as possible, the intercooler and piping becomes part of the inlet manifold due to the location of the throttle body,
big sections of silicone hose more than 2" tend to collapse when the engine is under vacuum.

Thanks for that Evil  ...... Do you know the actual dimensions of the Vr4 intercoolers?, if I cant find a good 2nd hand one I may have to go new 8O .

Approximatley what sort of temperature drop will a front mount VR4 setup have over the factory topmount? I know lots of varables come into it!... but Rough figures?, Has anyone here tried water injection after or before the blower?

Also using a 175mm pulley, what is a Safe "E N G I N E" RPM to keep in?, as not to overdrive and damage the blower rotors?

I Need a Blower Redline

Thanks in advance

Yeah man, I hear ya.. have you priced up intercooler piping lately! My mate brought an intercooler, went to Magoo's to get a quote, $1500 without silicone joiners! 8O It was even gonna cost me $700 to front mount my VR4 cooler in my turbo Pulsar! I ended up swapping the VR4 i/c for an RX7 i/c, so it could be side-mounted.. but the piping still cost $180!

I wouldve thought that alloy would be more expensive than stainless?
