1G-GTE=reliable?

whats the 1G-GTE like for reliability? and do they run any form of intercooler?

The 1Gs are a tad on the gutless side but I'd say as an engine itself it is very reliable...I never had any issues with mine except for rooting a couple of turbos. They are very sensitive to abuse.... :P

And yes they do use an Intercooler.

i cruise around in a mates 1GGTE soarer every now and then, when he first got it at about 90,000kms he blew one turbo, but that was probably due to bad oil.

ran flawless for another 50,000kms until we played round with the boost, wound her up to 18psi (gauge read wrong) and fried a headgasket.

on another motor now, cheaper than doing the head gasket, and its back to normal.

yea they have this huge torque gap below about 4,000rpm, but once they're moving the go quite well.
Horsepower is NOT proportional to the cross sectional area of your exhaust tip.

Just think of it as a 4A-GE with two more cylinders....

You can probably get a lot of power out of it if you spend the money.
