Urgent 1g-gteu head removal question..

Postby DC » Sat Jul 30, 2005 1:06 pm

Im hoping to remove, inspect and replace my head with a new gasket in one day, can it be done without having to reset the timing etc? Is there a trick to keeping tension on the cam-belt while I take off the cam pulleys and then remove the head? (I have heard there is a spring on the cam-belt tensioner that might pop out if I'm not careful and be a pain in the arse...)

Any help much appreciated

You will have to time the engine and remove the timing belt before you remove the head. Line up your timing marks, loosen the tensioner bolt, and lever the tensioner back and then tighten the bolt back up. Then you can remove the timing belt.
