Supra brakes....

Postby blackmk3 » Wed Aug 03, 2005 10:32 pm

the brakes are pretty shagged on my MA70 given any chance she will give you fade neway im just curious would SZ-RZ brakes fit? my "limited" factory brakes are big but from what ive heard they still get fade...weight

are they a straight bolt up, or what do i need to change

break master?

also...what is the diffrence between a "G" series and a "M" series LSD supra diff?

if anyone can help that would be great

Thanks
Nick

Nope neither of those two are bolt on replacements for an MK3. Better option would be if you don't already have them to upgrade to the bigger MA70 brakes as they are bolt on replacements and will do the job.

What do the other mk3 owners on this forum say? With good pads, new discs and quality fluid do the big wide whales pull up ok?

What pads were you running?, get a descent set of lucas race pads (very good, arent as rough as metal kings but perform just as good) Descent Dot 5.1 fluid and give the discs a machine. A newish model supra shouldnt have braking issues unless its set up wrong?

yeah i do have the bigger MA70 brakes, the rotas are origional and pretty nasty im going to replace them but i just thaught id investigate them anyway, the pads are just nasty repco replacemets as far as i know (previous owner)

so recomend, new rotors 5.1 fluid and lucas pads?

what about slotted rotors? worth it?

Cheers

The slots disperse heat better so it helps them stay cool and ultimately stop fade, while looking the bizzo behind your wheels. But if its set up with nice pads and descent fluid id suprised if it still faded.

If theres still heaps of meat on the discs they can be machined back to smooth for about $30 a pair, or get some aftermarket slotted ones, if the wallet allows :D

I would definitely start by completely flushing the fluid, the stuff in there is probably 15 years old and full of water. If you want really good pads talk to steve at 0800 BRAKES, they're not cheap though...

Have a read of this:

http://forums.toyspeed.org.nz/viewtopic.php?t=32514

Some good general brake info (including fluid and rotors).

Not cheap, but then, quality never is. Great pads (M1166 compound).

Yea but those would be the 2pots or 1pots wasn't it? For the earlier model JZA80s so won't really make that much of a difference IF they do fit.

Best thing to do is get new vented rotors and good quality pads with a full system flush and she'll do all the breaking you might need...

Grab a copy of the latest zoom magazine, they did a artical on upgrading to late model supra slotted discs and nissan 4pot calipars with braide lines and new fluid was on a soarer but they have the same set up as a supra.they neededspacer rings to fit the disc and a adapter plate to fit the calipars.he said it made a big difference.
