Lowering

Postby Go_the_mini » Sun Aug 07, 2005 8:54 pm

Now im sure this comes up alot however these a few things i need to sort out, everyone seems to have different ideas about everthing so:

By geting shorter stuts I am lowering the distance between the top of the stut and the wheel, therefor a smaller spring will remain captive?

What is the best shock obsorber to use? Gas/air/other? Will these just cause my car to ride smother?

Are aftermarket lowering springs ie Kingsprings shorter? as in will i need shorter struts to keep them captive?

Finally dose anyone no of a shorter strut that will fit into a ke30? A few people i no used datsun and hilux struts in starlets.

Any help is great thanks, Im also keen to buy sum lowering springs so if anyone has sum pm me thanks

this is true. You can get shocks shortened for this purpose quite easily, although I believe they need a cert (if done properly they'll never know though. Where do you intend to get shorter struts though? By struts I assume you mean shocks, yes? If you get a shock with a shorter body you'll have to shorten your struts to hold them properly, or put some sort of spacer inside the strut to make sure it doesn't flop around. If you can find a strut with the same size body but shorter stroke then good work :)

they're shorter, but most reputable brands will remain captive, as the stock springs are normally compressed about 2" when installed onto a strut, whereas most lowering springs barely compress 10cm when installed, and can often be installed without using spring compressors. Shorter or shortened shocks will be required if the springs you get are too short.
