2ZZGE swap

Postby Lamphant » Thu Aug 18, 2005 5:59 am

can anyone here tell me how hard it is to put a 2zzge in a Vitz....... it seems to be a very potent project (seeing that de 2zz is the rave) was asked if it would be beneficial as a project car and still maintain its reliabilty.......if any of y'alll have any links to where this has been done, plz share......i would really appreciate it thanx

We've looked at doing this. It's been done by a European design company as a promotional vehicle for Yamaha, but not for road use.
They sent me all the drawings & photographs which I had in another laptop but it was stolen. I have the print outs somewhere.
The problem was that the drivers side chassis rail needed to be cut and extensively modified in order for the engine to fit. As this was a major structural modification, it's unlikely that you'd get certification.

The Vitz RS model has a C56 gearbox (same as AE111) so a 4AGE transplant is probably easier.
We're looking into this right now.

I guess it'd depend on the year of your Vitz. 20V's were still current in 1999/2000.

An alternative is to look at modifying the 2NZFE 1500 engine. There's not a lot of data on it but there are instances of people using the 1300 1NZFE in rallying and getting some useful power. So it probably follows that the 1500 can be made to go quite well also. Trouble is it's not a recognised performance engine so off the shelf parts are pretty much non existent.

theres currently both those engine options being done up north.
not sure how far along they are but last i heard the 4age one was going to be ready for next years kiwi2 champs.
and the 2zz one was a bare shell with cutting etc about to start, that was 6 months ago. i guess we will see next season.
it would be damn good to see some more topline toyotas giving strong a hiding

Nice thought Warwick but I can't see anybody giving Dave a hiding. He's beatable for sure but just too damn talented for a hiding.

Do you know who the builders of these cars are? Maybe we can compare notes.

You're too young for a dodgy memory mate, I'd get that seen to.

I think you'll find the Kiwi2 Echo/Vitz you've heard about is not too far from here
