4age turbo

Postby ants_ae92 » Tue Aug 23, 2005 2:56 pm

Hey guys,

Have recently canned my NA idea in favour of a 4age turbo. Have read many posts on here etc about how to go about it.(have searched too)

I have an ae92 small port block (and an ae92 fwd levin, currently with big port tvis), which I will use, replace with gze pistons.

What I want to know is how to go about it with either 4age distributor ecu etc, or using any other options (keeping in mind I dont want to grab all the gze stuff)? I know I should go after market, possibly link if I can.

Turbo wise I will probably look at a td05 either of a vr4 or evo.

So barring manifold design, oil and water feeds, exhaust, what can I do to control fuel and ignition timing?

Any advice guys?

Cheers
Ants

first tell us ya budget, and desired power levels, being realistic. For eg:

$500 will get you maybe 110-120kw atw
$2000 will get you about 140-180kw atw
$3500-4000 and you will start needing to upgrade boxes etc, but be looking at 250kw+ atw

All done the cheapest possible ways of course, then we can send ya the names of people who have gone down your path/budget :)

Moderate budget at this stage, possibly $2000.

I have a rough Idea of cost, but the question i'm asking is 4age turbo, not 4agze turbo which is my main problem?

And at this stage possibly just 110-120kw - low boost (still doing gze pistons) at the moment, but want to upgrade in the future?

Thats easy, have a browse over these.

http://garagedori.com/members/mattg/AE86_mk2/index.php

http://garagedori.com/tech/4age_btecu.php

http://garagedori.com/tech/turbo86/turbo.php < read all the pages of that.

Garage Dori is the place to go for that kind of info, have look around and check the forums.

yep thats right

Look at karl skewes and matt gills past set ups

For 2g youll be looking realistically at 170-190kw atw

Assuming:

-Cheap manifold (300 bucks)
-cheap link ecu (maybe 600)
-Link Tuning (3-400)
-Oil lines, intercooler, putting together (3-400)
-t3/4 or t28 turbo (2-400)
-385-440cc injectors (100)

remove tvis and get tuned professionally, the best power you can get is from the tune

If you run a redtop bottom end and a mild p+p, gze pistons (maybe an extra 1000-1200) you can get like 200-250kw atw, so for your budget id just look for the individual bits, then work up a good stock engine, will last years with a good tune and regular servicing

go hard, im looking at doing the above mods to a stock fxgt, 190kw atw should net 12's, be phat :)

Yeah I have read their pages, looking at it now, it might just be easier to get the gze computer and afm, loom, cas, coil packs and ignitor and then use that as a base.

Who knows what i'll do.

Definitely going for gze pistons, will keep researching as you do

hey ive been wanting to do this for some time as well, money and insurance being the only things holding me back, ive got AE101 but its only running a 4afe, so what would be the best bang for buck/cheapest option replacing the engine for a 4agze or replacing the pistons for stronger items from a 4agze and a 20v head im wanting around the 170kw - 190kw atw

get any 20v block or 16v small port - they have the same internals barring the pistons. Replace pistons with 4agze items.

4afe rods may not hold up too well and I think the block specs are different to 4age right?

20v's are cheap enough and easy to find.

i think the blocks are the same, the only difference im aware of is the the cams are only 22. 5 degrees instead of i think 46 degrees in the 4age which is why i want to change them
