Ae111 Probs

Postby dotdog » Wed Aug 24, 2005 10:18 pm

Hey all, just been having a few problems with my ae111 levin lately. It seems to be really down on power to start with, and just before the vvt kicks in it feels like it backs off for half a sec and then pulls along again. Could these probs be thermostat related, cause ive noticed lately that it is taking ages to warm up and misses and jurks when its cold. Anyone got any ideas?
Cheers

I am not 100% sure. but.......

did you just recently change engine oil? because when i change my engine oil and i over filled it just a bit, it does the same thing as yours. but after it drank some of it away. the power come back in.

and about warming up, i just change my oil too, and because the oil is new, so u need to let it "run in" a bit. cause new oil is thick and sticky.

Maybe i am wrong. Someone correct me if i am.

how long does it take to warm up? i think i may have the same problem, it wont get to 800rpm (idle) for maybe 5 mins? - my guess would be thermostat to, can anyone help, or is it just a 20v thing like drinking oil.

hmmm. maybe i am wrong. Becoz before i change my oil it idle about 1200 when first start up and gets to 800 pretty quickly. Since i change oil in the weekend (Castrol R) it started idling at 1600+ in start up but get back down to 800 when the temp needle hits middle of the gauge.

I asked my friends, they just think is new oil thts y. but maybe you are right. themostat?

i almost always started with 1600+ idling with cold start, even when my oil is already running for 4000km... could it be my thermostat not working well??? it took around 1 to 2 min for the temperature needle to get into middle... i suppose 1 to 2min should be alright or not...

my bzr always idles at 1600 - 1800 when cold then drops off to about 800.
it sounds like it could be a 20v thing maybe.

It's more than likely it's the engine temp sensor thats bung, When they play up they send the wrong info to the ECU like telling its it's cold and in turn the ECU puts to much fuel in and it runs like a bag of $hit.
If changing the thermostat doesn't help this is where i'd look next.

Thermostat helped heaps, seems heaps more responsive now, and bit more power

Have your car done lots of modification in the engine or something like air & fuel set up? Cos mine one had the same prob. I drove and tested my car everyday and even went to tune up the car, however..it didn't help me much!!! Well...until i had changed to use 98 fuel. The problem has gone. Hope it help.... and my car is running smooth now.

4age's are like 3stgte's in that you should really give an engine flush each time you do an oil change. That $10 could save you up too 2 grand if you can't change the engine yourself
