4K/KE70 Won't Start (Electrical???)

Postby pervert » Thu Sep 29, 2005 8:17 pm

I got home from work about 5pm, parked my car in the driveway, all was fine.

Went inside, and went back out about 7pm and went to start it...it won't start... :?

When you crank it to the 'Start' position on the key, it turns over and starts fine, but as soon as you let the key go and it flicks back to the 'On' position it stalls instantly...if you hold the key on 'Start' so the starter motor is continuously cranking over it stays running, but as soon as you let it go it dies again...

It is dark, so I haven't had a chance to check anything out apart from the fuses, so I was wondering if anyone knows what will be causing this, so it will make it nice and quick for me to fix tommorrow morning...

Thanks heaps. 8)

hmmm sounds like the ballast resistor.... assuming your 4K has one, check the white ceramic thingie beside the coil make sure there are two wires comming off either side.
I always manage to knock one off while working on my car. 8)

^ What he said, bro.

The shitty solder falls off even if you just look at it. Check the wiring to and from the ceramic block.

What happens is that when u turn the key, all unnecessary electrics are shut down momentarily (hence why radio/interior lights go off when you turn the key to start) and all power goes to the starter motor/ignition relay. When you release the key to 'accessories', power comes back.. but with a disconnected resistor.. no spark!
