Need HELP.... 3SGE MR2

Postby kensw » Tue Nov 15, 2005 12:04 am

hey y'all..im seeking some advice for a 3sge build..i have a 96 sw20 with a gen3 3sge engine and wanting to get more power out of it..
its a completely standard engine with an micro compressor on it tht doesnt do much...what are my options besides slaping a 3sgte engine in there...
i heard from other people tht changing the cams and valve springs could get me about 20-30 more hp with a decent exaust..
im after 220-250 hp..is tht possible with this engine???? 8O
wht are the ways i could gain a resonable amount of power without having to spend a fortune..i know n/a power dont come cheap...but some comments would be really appreciated....cheers !!

RomanV's guide to NA power in an SW20.

1. Find and buy a redtop 3SGE.

2. Shoehorn into the back of MR2.

3. 200hp!

Note: Stages 2 and 3 have yet to be completed.

To make more power out of the motor you have...

Are you prepared to make the engine less drivable at low RPMs? Because the unfortunate thing about NA tuning is that almost any top end power gain means a loss of low end power. :? With the exception of VVTI, VTEC or similar engines.

How much do you have to spend? I would say it would take a few thousand bucks to get 220hp out of a gen 3 NA motor.

250hp would cost.... a substantial amount. :?

Of money AND bottom end power!
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.
