cutting a AE101 FXGT

Hi guys heres question for them in the know

i have a ae 101 fxgt

and am flaring the guards out on the rear

now theres 2 "skins" theres a inner and the outer (the part that people see) the two are spot welded together

what i want to know is ... can the INNER one be cut back say a inch or two (where the two are spot welded)

and then REwelded using spot welds or just tacking it toghether (so that theres no danger of it coming loose and cutting into the tyres

or would i be better of just flaring both of them out

is this for a road car? or race car?
you could run into problems if you just cut it with out getting the correct ppl to say yes....

i was looking at installing a vent in the l/h rear guard of my car... and had to shelve it as it would require a cert as your altering the structure of the car.

its for a road car ....

i personally cant see why it would be a problem as i would be rewelding it up in basically the same place just further up

but i might have to have a word with the guy whos doing the rest of the certifying and see what he has to say

yeah but because your touching it, it has to be done properly...
it may not need to be certed... but best to check first!
i know in my aw11 it did

so if i got a guy with a certificate to say he can weld that would be better ?

(despite the fact i have been welding for about 5 years !)

dunno, i just think itd be a good idea to check first
