Roll Center Adjuster, what length for AE-85/6?

Postby Rick » Tue Dec 06, 2005 6:11 pm

I am going to make some roll center adjusters for my ae85 and would like to know what length to make them, is the length of the (RCAs) determined by how much you lower the car by? because I have seen kits for sale ranging from 20mm to 50mm.

When you lower an AE86/85 etc the more you lower it, the more you affect the suspension geometry. lowering it can drastically change the front role center. To correct the front changes in geometry from lowering, the spacer helps to re-align the front lower control arms back to proper specs once your AE85/6 has been lowered.

those ones in the pics battle version ?

i would believe the theory would be to have them the same length as to what you have lowered the car, effectivly 'zeroing' it off, i would be tempted to use a offset/negative rca which will add track width and camber if doing this,
although im sure sean faithful will have his say on this :D

so after you lower it you put those blocks in it and raise it back up??

no they dont raise they car, they let the arm drop back to its original angle ( or close to), imagine that pic above if the rca wasn't there, the arm would be flat instead of on a downwards angle

yes, and if an arm is horizontal, any further suspension compression will cause camber to increase, to the point where you may end up with positive camber on the outer wheels going around a corner at speed - which would not be at all good

what they said. if i were you i'd look at buying some from techno toy tuning in america, they make some quality gear for good prices. i made a set myself for my lancer because there was nothing around and its quite a hard job to do, even with having a milling machine and a lathe available.

they've got quite a bit of cool stuff available for old toyota's

cheers
Matt

By locally you mean twice the price of buying them yourself direct from T3, and a 4-6 week wait

So how do you figure that ?

TechnoToyUS $70 = NZ$99.70 + freight = $120+
Ae86Factory NZ$130 including freight

both have probably the same shipment time.

And being a legitimate business they also have to charge the GST that you may dodge with importing privately.

Thier camber plates for example, are $70 cheaper landed here in NZ from T3 than 86Factory's prices, and take 4 days to get here.

and that assumes you dont have to pay gst or get stung with freight. For such a marginal saving, i would support the local guy. :)
