I cant speak for that particular model, but in my experience Hankook tyres are shit. Not too bad in the dry, but as soon as the road surface is damp, kiss traction goodbye.
I went from A503 Yokohamas to some sort of Hankook on the MR2, and its honestly the biggest regret I've had with the car. Any sort of damp surface, and lateral grip was drastically reduced.

Ive got Hankook Ventus K102's on my car and they grip pretty well ive found. Even in the wet, hit a 90 degree corner at a decent speed, on my old tyres i wud have over steered :? , i blame 4ws for that, but with these tyres steering stayed neutral, im pleased for $138 each fitted and balanced

used to have michelens(sp) btw

I've also got no experience with that particular model, but I did have a pair of hankooks on the back of my mivec lancer when i had it, and they were undoubtably the worst tyres I have ever come across.

fwd lancers are not known for being tail happy but the hankooks tried to kill me repeatedly by doing enormous tail out action at the most unexpected moments.

I ended up taking them back and replaced them with some nice yokohama's after a couple of weeks and will never buy another hankook...

but maybe that model is better???

Did you have any trouble?

I lied... I actually bought a pair this evening. I thought the back wheels were lose or something so I ended up stopping on the motorway. The Bald Champrio tyres which came off felt safer and gripped better.

I asked the tyre place if I could trade up to a better tyre (I have done 10km at the most on them) and he has refused. They DONT FEEL SAFE. I think I will buy some different tyres and try and sell these on trademe; its not worth risking my car.

I actually bought them with mags and they were the only thing they had in stock that would fit without rubbing on the guards so they had sold them to me for practically nothing to get the sale on the mags, but after seeing how opeless they were i took them back, I think they gave me half the cost of them back or something (was a while ago - cant remember) and seeing as I paid bugger all for them anyway I was just glad to be rid of them.

also on the subject of hankooks, see the cause of the crash in this thread...

hankook derizza

Dunlop make the Direzza (I have them on the front; bloody awesome!). I think from the photos though, they are Hankook's.

It definately isnt worth risking the car.

I had Hankook Z2000 (road legal race rubber), lasted 1,500km before they went totally bald (and then got stolen anyway). Very impressive tire for instant traction even when quite cold, but picked up nails constantly (2-3 punctures in those 1500km). Not nearly as good as the Dunlop R, but worked from cold much better than the "R".

Bit of a theme here about the quality of the Hankooks I think :) But, that tire did get an utterly stock standard 1984 (so no brakes) AW11 down to 1:30 around Manfeild.

I have Hankook Ventus K102's on the Caldina... 205x50R16's to be exact, there awesome... I havent managed to loose traction with them yet unless i really wanted to... I would rate them as good as the Potenza G3's i had on the car previously...

I'ld kinda go with you on that comment..

i havent had anything other than the K104's in 265's to com[pare to but they loved to get going in the wet. i could EASILY get the back out with a little power around corners. kinda of an unpredictable tyre.

i still have the Eagle F1's at #1 on my list ;)

FYI: I had Dunlop Direzza's put on the rear today and it has made a huge difference already. The car feels a lot safer to drive, and its just a tad noiser.

I rang almost every tyre place in Auckland (well...at least 7) to try and trade them, and nearly all said the H405 was an aweful tyre. Some of the newer designed Hankooks are apparently quite good (maybe the K series?). Only one person said the H405 was a good tyre, but advised me putting it on a car with Direzza's on the front.

Cheers for all your advice guys. Next time ill ask for it BEFORE I waste $275.

All up, less than the trade in, this excercise cost me an extra $115.

speaking of cheap tyres anyone heard of these ones mag and turbo are doing for $99 new for 17s, think called accelera?

And then recently heard of 'triangle' tyres and 'clear' (could be spelt kleir or anyway).

Never heard of these before.....are we getting an influx of cheap shite here?

Tires

Postby tomo1985 » Wed Dec 14, 2005 12:21 pm

With tires you always get what you pay for. I used to work at mag and turbo in CHCH. GT Radials are prob the best tire for your $ if you have a smaller wheel id suggest yoko over anything.
