Do different oil filters affect oil consumption

Hi, just wondering... do different oil filters affect the amount of oil that your car eats. I normally use those repco oil filters and I would normally have to top up on oil maybe once every oil change (8000 km). But recently I used a FRAM oil filter and now my car loves the chomping on the oil now and I have to top up around every 1000 kms.

I use magnatec by the way... on the might 20 valve!

Yes, Oil filter's do consume oil. They have a carbon catylicic content (CCC) which generally removes about 500ml per 1000km. However there are different ratings and different oil consumption rates. The rate is printed on the cartridge, generally embedded in the part code.

Have you changed brand of oil,some brands will use more than others,usually Castrol will drink oil like its going out of fashion try a different brand of oil,often will use less oil.

oil filters have there own flow rates i.e 22.5cc etc
you can effect the oil pressure buy putting a diff size filter on a car

good example of this is a hydraulic system on a tractor
u put a small filter on it and it effects the hydraulics ie they go realy really slow
but if u do the op and put a bigger filter on they work way faster

same applies with oil filters

just do wot cozmo said and stick with gen and change oil to like a protec " castrol "
