320km/h speedos

Postby barryogen » Mon Dec 12, 2005 2:39 pm

Anyone know where to get them?
I hit the 180 that mine goes up to, the GPS said I was at 223.4 but it was still going, so I would rather get the 320 instead of the 240 that seem to be semi availible(for the Supra).

Can anyone give me some pointers on where to go?

and yes I have flicked Warrick an email(no TRD stuff) just thought others may have some idea on this sort of thing.

also cost may be handy to kow, I might just get logging GPS if easier/cheaper as it would give me a bit more bling too

Thanks for that, but I was meaning more a replacement speedo not something I have to screw onto the dash or something although I guess it may be able to be mounted in behind the clear plastic cover.

btw, the TRD gear doesn't seem that expensive.
http://trdparts.jp/english/parts_fullscalemeter.html
20-22000 Yen, so only $234-260 NZ plus shipping... although not availible for my car :(

*edit*
^^^^^^
and only the speedo(precisly what I'm after)

heh, just found this page too...
http://trdparts.jp/english/parts_fullscalecomb.html which are a tad more expensive, ~$1000 for the whole replacement tacho/speedo and the rest of the dials.

That seems funny.
I remember about 2 years ago fitting a 320kmh TRD speedo to a JZA80 supra at work.
The owner supplied the speedo, I just fitted it.

I remember because I thought it was funny that we fitted a 320k speedo instead of a 180, but it still had the 180k cutout, lol.

thats pretty odd that they'd go to the effort of sourcing the speedo and not kill the speed cut, although unless on the track the speed cut would never get hit, and when on track, you don't usually look at the speedo.

Personally I just want it for completeness sake.

Hey.. sorry to be a newb but what kinda GPS would give a speed read out?
And how much would it be?
Would you get the same kinda readings from a GReddy ECU?

I'm looking at getting the GReddy E-Manage system ya see.
But I'm also looking at getting a small screen, so if it'd be cool to have speed readings. Is there a graphical map for Christchurch with those GPS's?

most decent GPS will give a readout, pay a bit more and you can get one that plots where you have been, and times you were there(useful if your not speeding, and want to show in court).

no idea about the Greddy ECU sorry, it's not my area.

The map thing, you would need some sort of satelitte navigation system(satnav), check out navman on the dick smith site http://dse.co.nz it does the mapping thing, and you can purchase more maps for it too.

So with a decent GPS i could get that plotting and speeds on the LCD screen? Or does it come with it's own?

it depends on the GPS, some plot to their LCD, but once you've gone ~1km it is too small to be usefull, most(that plot) will plot to a file, then you can take the file and put it on a PC or whatever, and do whatever you like with it.

not completely, but yeah a bit.
I've found a way around it anyway, have found a conversion kit to change the km/h to mph, then a custom face I guess(laser cut stainless?), and all in all not too costly(39 euros for the conversion kit, the face might cost a bit more though), so that gives me a 180MPH speedo, should cover all this car can do and a bit more.

I don't imagine getting to 300 in the RunX, I'd imagine that I'd hit the "you've gotta be f'ing joking" mental wall before I got near 300, not to mention needing a bit more torque, and a few more horses, maybe a bit better shape to the car, as it is, it's still a corolla shape, so a bit tall.
