Tow Bar on Carib BZ-T

Postby tomo1985 » Tue Dec 13, 2005 12:48 pm

What weight would you suggest would be the maxium to tow on a BZ-T Carib 6 speed black top?

Where would you suggest in CHCH to get one made custom around my exhaust.

What is the cheapest way of stoping guard rub?? I have 18inch wheels lowered guards rolled would putting in bigger bump stops be ok?

about 950 kgs braked. 750 unbraked.

blackwells

fit suspension or tyres suitable to the application.

fitting bigger bumpstops will just casue you to lose suspension travel. which is bad

You're kidding right?

A 5afe has more power down low than a blacktop, good luck with the hills

Jetski

Postby tomo1985 » Tue Dec 13, 2005 3:22 pm

Its only to tow a seadoo jet ski. I know its not going to be the fastest but its all I have at the moment. It would be way under that weight as it only takes three people to lift it.

considering you will be in the lower gears going up hills, i dont think a 6 speed will help. i might be wrong.

gears

Postby tomo1985 » Thu Dec 15, 2005 9:19 am

I thought the 6 speeds had all shortened gears

All the gears are shorter but work there way up to the same final drive as the 5 speeds. Not the 5 speed box with a extra tall gear.

Am i correct in saying this?
Would there be more NM or touqe at the wheels due to the shorter gears before you caulate the gear ratios into it?

If someone under stands this can they please put me right!!!

The 6 speed is a closer ratio box so at 100km's in 6th you're doing about the same revs as a 5 speed(doing 100kph in 5th  ).

But as second has no meaning until 100 kph (when pushing it) the 6 speed is a waste IMHO.

As for the towing? He'll be fine. To be honest I've seen an older honda civic tow a huge furniture trailer, it was braked but my god, you could've driven the car around and round inside the trailer. 8O

I tow all the time with my 5 spd bz-t.

Three days ago I towed a large trailer with 439kg on it. No problems at all. Up and down hills just fine.

About two months ago I towed with about 8-900 kg on and that was a bit of a struggle but did it fine none the less and with a car load of people. You just have to hold each gear longer than normal. I was changing at 5k.

Interesting... So any benefit you would recieve from a 6-speed would probably be lost through an extra gear change?

My 5 Speed BZ-Touring hits exactly 100kph in Second @ Redline; can someone with a six speed tell me where their second gear ends?

The extra gear has been placed after 2nd, they are similar in 1st and 2nd but closer from 3rd to 6th. On a track it would be pretty good but driving around the place I haven't noticed a major difference and think the 6 speed is just a bit of extra bling.

6 speed

Postby tomo1985 » Mon Dec 19, 2005 2:46 pm

Yeah i find mine is good but not really needed around town. The 3rd and fourth close gears are great for over taking coz you always have a gear in the power range. Also good for going up hills as you dont get stuck between gears.
