A turbo and Supercharger question.

Postby ollieboy » Fri Dec 16, 2005 11:08 pm

Lately I have been reading up on Turbos and Superchargers and I was wondering would it be possible to have 2 sequential turbos and a supercharger on an engine? It seems possible in theory and would make the engine pretty powerful but would it ever work?

A fair bit of piping and money if you want it working well. Search for "twincharge" and see what you get. Can have them running into each other or running one and have the turbo take over. Was a 13B with an SC14 or something on it in Zoom a few months ago running the latter setup

Heres a pick on a recent posting on the ausmini forum of exactly what you are talking about:

http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=13973

But other than that, as HRT suggests search twincharge. There used to be a kit on the market for single supercharger/turbo seup for the 4age. Cool idea, but a lot of piping and work to set one up, and then taking into consideration the cost it would be more benificial to either have a nice turbo conversion or simply a bigger engine to begin with. cool all the same though.
Cant believe im still a member here.

although it could be a cool concept, its a waste of money and time, where you could get just as much fun and power out of a twin turbo or more so just a simple single turbo, ohterwise u just keep pouring money into it where as you could spend it elsewhere on making a big single turbo go faster, like fully forged engine and run alot of boost. Also having a twincharged setup or even a twin turbo and supercharged setup like in that pic, would put alot of strain on the engine and it would have to be bullet proof and would be unreliable as!

The Nissan March "Super Turbo" had, you guessed it,
a factory supercharger & turbo.

it also came in Turbo only form..

a while ago I read about a supercharged twin turbo subaru WRX... it was somewhat lacking in the tuning dept still though when I read about it, and was sitting somewhere around the 500HP mark... no doubt stripping gears and diffs.

Lancia made a awesome twin charge rally car.

The idea is so you dont have any lag but get the advantage of a large turbo.

Well thats why I was thinking sequential turbos cause then you get heaps of power low down from the supercharger and turbo. It would be a cool thing to have, pretty unique

OR

Use the money you would spent farting around with all that, spend it on a bigger huffer, and realise that if you want to go fast, you dont do it at 3000rpm anyway...

A guy in town here had that kit on his AE92 GTZ.

He found the same as we did when we twincharged our 1GGZE.

The twin setup gives massive power in the low RPM range,
but is far too restrictive in the high rpm range.
We did back to back testing with our one on a two day event by replacing
the supercharger with a piece of exh tube,
and went from a mid runner in the evnt to the top 3.
Also made about 10kmh faster from the standing start to the first corner where they has a speed trap.
