my gauges are dead! does anyone know where can i repair them

Postby ZZa » Thu Dec 29, 2005 12:39 am

Hi guys, I've bought a set of Blitz DC II gauge a month ago and installed it on my car few days ago..Everything works fine except for the Oil press gauge..

The 3 gauge that i have actually were connected to a thing called live unit, the other end of the live unit were various plug for different sensors...so that one gauge can get more than one type of reading like display both oil temp and water temp on one gauge.
like this diagram below.. (sorry thats the best diagram that i can draw on PC )

gauge...................... Live unit (the live unit is a box with 3 plug for 3 gauge)

O ---------------------- [ ]-
O --------------------- [ ]- ~~~~~ECU~~~Sensors
O---------------------- [ ]-

THe problem that i have is, when i start the engine, every gauge worked except the oil press, the light of the gauge were on but it dosen't take any reading..
so with my engine still on, I unplug the press gauge, and connected again, than the gauge just work fine...able to take readings again, with every other function like light adjustment, rec, peak hold all works fine. So i leave the gauge connected and turn the engine off, and than on again... but the press gauge fail to work again.. so i realise the gauge will only work when i plugged it in with the engine that's already on... this mean to make my gauge work,i have to connect and disconnect the gauge everytime when i start my car...

Now the gauge gets even worse, when i use my cigarette lighter, the horse power gauge will suddenly spin up to 500hp...it wasn't that much of a problem at first as it will turn to normal condition after a few seconds... but few weeks ago when i use the cigarette lighter again... all my gauges suddenly all switched off... and will only be on occasionly....

SInce i've bought my gauge for quite a long time already so im pretty much hopeless in gettng it replace from the seller. So does anyone have experience problem like this before or know anybody in new zealand that fix gauges?

any help will be much appreciated.. Thanks

have you used good connections and power feeds?
cig lighter shouldnt affect stuff- it sounds like you have taken a feed from that and that it draws too much power when being used for the gauges to work
maybe rewire it- take a new positive feed from the ignition and make sure all earths are good and connections solid.
Does the unit use factory sensors, or did it have its own to put in?
for it to only work occasionally now, you either have it wired up not so well, or perhaps the unit as shorted somehow and is faulty.
Cant believe im still a member here.

The Hp guages going nuts is normal Read below. and or google for HP / PS guages and how they work. the quote explains what ive tryed to say.

Check the wireing for the 1 guages playing up *( oil press ).. As it seems that maybe that alone is the cause not the hole lot.

Err i think with a HP guage it would as the HP / PS gauges run from the Alternator to judge HP / PS ( along with other stuff i belive ) so if you increase load on the Alternator by useing something such as a smoke lighter it will temp naff up the readings it gives the guages * unless the guage is ment to have something in it to compensate for spikes *.

Sounds like it operates the same as the Defi guages to.

"Now, let's say that you have a (standard) Tachometer installed in the vehicle (or as part of this system). You would then know: (1) Torque; and (2) RPM;, on a continuous basis. It turns out that Horsepower is directly related to these values:

Horsepower = Torque * RPM * 2 * Pi / 33,000"
