4k, cam, twin carbs and standard exhaust

Postby RE20 » Sat Jan 14, 2006 7:30 pm

Hello Im putting in an 4K to my starlet tomorow, the engine has a mild cam (i have no idea how much) and have some twim carbs to put on. Can this bolt up to my standard 2K exhaust manifold with no problems? Reason I ask is that I have some extractors but they will obviously not bolt up to my current exhaust and I dont have the $ just yet to do the exhaust (wont be long though). So will bolting it all up be alright? Or will the standard manifold not be able to handle this properly?

Other option is to bolt up the extractors and make a flange with a downsizer pipe into my exhaust system. The first option would be ideal as it will make it much easier.

Any suggestions would be very helpful!

It'll choke with the stock manifold though....remember, the more you put in, the more you have to get out ;) Go for the 2nd option until you can do the rest of the exhaust.

Thats the word i was looking for! yeah dont wanna choke it ay, I'll go for no 2 i think :)

edit - how bad would it choke it? a 5K must put out equiv gas? and the manifolds are the same for them?

The manifolds are the same, it would run fine, just wouldnt make as much power as a free flow exhaust, espiecally with a lumpy cam.
