I need some help...

Postby meesheelly » Mon Feb 20, 2006 12:08 pm

I have owned a 1991 ae101 trueno for about 8 months now. When we got the car it needed a bit of work, including replacing the front rotors. It has been good up until a couple of weeks ago, when i noticed that when breaking at 100 down a hill, my break pedal and steering wheel were shuddering like they did when we 1st got it. We replaced the pads and got the wheels balanced but it is still there. It also does it when decelerating(no break and on the flat) from about 110 to 80 kmph. I would greatly appreciate any ideas. Please help.

Are you sure you had rotors replaced, not just machined?
Try at first taking the wheels off and installing then turn 90 degrees off from original position. When you tighten the wheel nut make sure they are all even and not overtight.
It possible to warp rotors by uneven thightness of wheel nuts and/or overtightening them.
Also how did you bed in the new rotors?
When bedding in new rotors/pads make sure they cool down before complete stop after hard braking.

Did you get the wheels alligned aswell when you had them balanced?

I'd probably say it can be one of a couple of things but if your wheels have not been alligned then I'd suggest you take it in to get that done.

Check that your rotors aren't glazed over or that your break pads aren't getting warned unevenly as that can cause it aswell.

Might even be worn out bushes but I'm not 100% sure exactly what aspect of breaking if at all bushes will affect if they are worn out.

Wheel alignment wont make the car shake though. Cheap rotors can warp again very quickly, or if they've been heated up (after a spirited drive) then hit water, that'll do it too.
Take the car into someplace that works on brakes alot, and get them to check the runout on them.
Were they replaced or machined initially?

I solved my wheel shuddering problem by replacing the bushes or bushels or whatever they're called. Pretty easy way to check this is to jack the car up and see if there is any 'play' in the wheel from side to side.
