How to fix Broken Pwr Window Auto up...?

Hey all,

I'm after some help please from anyone that might know! I've got a 94 Exiv with a broken auto-up swtich on the driver window control.

The window still goes down fine (either manually or one-push-auto) but when I pull up there is no longer any resistance (about as much resistance as lifting a single piece of paper) and I have no manual control over it going up - it only auto-up's, then it sounds like it keeps pushing against the top of its extention. Plus, the switch stays up and doesn't pop back to its original position.

I imagine (hopefully) that a spring or something has popped off the return for the switch? Has anyone else come across this problem, and secondly, I'm not too handy with removing plastics, so what's the easiest way to get access to the switch to have a look without smashing up half my door trim?

Yeh, sounds like what ya said... faulty or broken switch. Sounds mechanical (not in the proper mechanical sense) rather than electrical, so id say it was the actual switch rather than wiring. Interior panels are pretty easy to get off any car. Just look around for lil clips or if ya got a manual with the beast, it may say how in there...

Door trims are very easy to get off, There are usually around 4 or 5 screws holding it on, around 7 clips and a ledge which folds over the top. Try and find as many screws as possible, undo them, then pull the bottom ledge. If you find your pulling and nothings happening there will still be screws in there. Once all the screws are out you can pull the bottom ledge. It should pivot about the top edge, slide it up and out. On some cars you need to rotate the door card 90 degrees once uncliped to clear the door handle. Undo all the electrical plugs and you can fully remove the door card

The windows switches should slide out or clip out, you need to push them out from underneath.

If your keen take it apart. Im not sure what to do after this because ive never owned a car with power windows

Otherwise you'll be able to find a replacement at a local wreakers. They'll try rip you off so shop around.

Usually there is a screw hidden behind the door handle as well.

So from what I'm reading I basically have to remove most of the door trim rather than just the panel holding the window controls...damn!

If you take the whole door card out it'll be easier, and probably be a better finish.
