So is the engine out of a 1st generation SW20?
The car you want to put it in to is a 2nd generation SW20?

I dont know, my understanding was he wanted to put a AW11 motor into a SW20..

So i think its a perfectly valid question.

Same engine.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

One of the main difference will be the speedo drive, does your gen2 n/a have an electronic or cable speedo ? The gen1 turbo gearboxes are cable speedos.

The Gen 1 SW20's came with the Gen 2 3SGTE's. The Gen 2 SW20's came with the Gen 2 3SGTE's.

Rear suspension was altered to make the car sit a bit lower in the back (If I recall correctly)

Also, if you're not going to change the gearbox as well, then don't worry about the speedo cable. Don't listen to Al, he doesn't know much ;)

My bad I thought you had an n/a for some reason, and the 1992 onwards sw20 turbos had an electronic speedo drive. If you already have a gen2 I'm assuming you are going to use your existing gearbox.

thats pretty self explanetry in his title

The way it was worded I wasnt sure if he meant the motor type...eg Gen1 mr2 motor type ( the motor being a 3sgte,meaning a gen 1 3sgte) and the car being a gen 2 sw20...etc etc...but now he know the answer so its irrelevent

Ahhh ah ah ah.... The first generation of 3S engines was before the SW20 came along. The first generation of SW20's received the second generation of 3S's.

that Akane guy has a Gen 1 MR2 engine in his Gen 2 MR2, so I don't see what the problem is, he did have to change some of the sensor's over though.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

Exactly!!!Thats what no_8wire was trying to say...If he was talking about gen1 for the motor type, he would be chucking in the wrong one!

ah that feels better...

my thinking.......ouch!

Postby mr2--mad » Fri Feb 24, 2006 1:41 pm

i never new aw11s came out with 3s engines, opps(i think thats where we went on a tangent )
i saw a site somewhere that said my frame number sw20 0068265 was in the range of gen 2 cars (it has original 3sgte (not for long))

the reconditioner im buying the engie off said he remembers the car being the rounder model mr2 so i think ill just buy it and see if all the little holes line up

Thanks everyone :D
