Do a compression test, that would give you an indication of the piston ring condition.
There's a couple ways to 'fix' this. The best and most expensive option would be to tear down the engine and replace the rings, bearings etc. You could switch to a thicker oil say 15W50, but that's not recommended for a high revving engine. Or a cheap alternative which may work is to use an oil additive - not the ones which work by thickening up the oil, but the ones which contain PFTE. I used Nulon worn engine treatment in my Galant with over 400,000kms on the clock. It used to burn about 1L of oil every 1000kms or less. I chucked that stuff in and I haven't had to top it up for 3000kms. Even though it would chew through the oil, I would never really see it puff out blue smoke unless I absolutely raped it.
