Flex Plate Modification.

Postby Silent Knight » Fri Mar 10, 2006 12:49 pm

Has anyone ever had their flex plates modified?

Would this be recommended, or provide any noticeable improvement with shifting and gears etc in an auto tranny? This will be accompanied with a 3K RPM stally and a Stage 2 MV Shift Kit aswell.

I was thinking of getting a lighter flex plate made up somewhere to change whilst I'm changing the TCs and instaling the shift kit in to the tranny.

I know B&M make flex plates for street/race/drag etc use but they generally only do it for the american cars. Nothing I've found so far for Toyota.

Anyone have any experience/knowledge on this?
Can any one point me to a place that will be able to provide info/maybe machine a new one up?

Cheers,

Hanré

I doubt you will get any benefit from a lighter one, most of the aftermarket ones are more for strength when dealing with high stall convertors.

yeah, the weight of a flexplate is nothing compared to that of the torque convertor, even a flex plate that weighed nothing probably wouldn't make a difference :P

aftermarket items are usually for conversions(non factory tranny/engine combo) and added strength. not for making more power or torque as such
