New clutch problems

Postby slighty_sykotic » Thu Mar 16, 2006 10:40 pm

Hey,

Ive just put a new exedy (oem spec) clutch into my 20v. I got a clutch kit, (212mm disc), chucked it all in, seemed to do up ok.

Got the frekin box back on... started it up and the clutch just slips... like it won't bite AT ALL.

I jacked it back up, put it in gear and spun one wheel by hand, and the other one turned the oppisite way (go the no lsd :P) and there was no resistance from the clutch at all. I.E, I shouldn't have been able to do that cause the motor should have been trying to turn over.

Thought $&#$%.. Took the box back off, and took the pressure plate off and the disc was in the right way (lol). Now, the odd thing is that the disc appears to only be "scuffed" in a 3 or 4 mm wide ring around the middle of the disc, and there is a matching small ring on the pressure plate. Its almost like there is a high spot the whole way around.

But, i disgress, I bolted the cltuch back on, and the pressure plate clamps it to the flywheel bloody hard, like I can't shift it with a screwdriver at all once it's tightened, so there should be at least some friction when I spun the gearbox, even if its 3/4mm on a high spot, surely I still wouldn't be able to overcome that amount of friction.

Any ideas?

And its a new clutch disc, plate, and release bearing.

And the release bearing/clutch slave is not part of the problem, im 100% sure that the bearing isnt trying to disenage the clutch the entire time. And im also sure the clutch disc is the right one (same model number stamped on it as the one I took out), and the bearing is the right one. And the pressure plate I hope is the right one.. its the one that came in the kit, and in every way it appears the same as the old one.

What im asking I guess, is there any way when I put the gear box on I could upset something enough to do what I discribe?

Get your fly machined sounds like there is a uneven wear on it.

Ok...but the flywheel is dead flat across all surfaces....(with a straight edge..a proper straight edge).

How could that cause the clutch to not grip? (and the old clutch wasnt rooted or anything, still had alot more to go, so it wasn't wearing anything hard).

you having the front jacked up and turning one wheel and the other spins also?

try jacking up one corner, spin it and see what happens.

Have you actually driven it at all?

As MrOizo said, If both front wheels are off the ground then what you described is normal. (Apart from the slipping clutch thing you mentioned)

Did you ever get to the bottom of the problem?
