What could cause a car to Missfire?

Postby Zyros » Fri Mar 17, 2006 10:41 pm

Hey all, my car still missfires.. But not as bad..
It doesnt stall after fully warmed up, this was fixed by sorting out some vacum leaks..

When my car is warm, its jerks.. missfires.
When cold, runs fine..

I started noticing this on a very gravely, dusty road and on the way back it started jerking in 4th and 4rd gear on the off occasion..
I popped my bonnet to see that the airfilter has slipped off, and all that dusty, gravel etc could of gone directly into the throttle body, not get filtered first..

Ive replaced the coil, dizzy, dizzy leads + cap, Spark plugs..
Now, the spark plugs which i replaced were brand new, but now they have rusted after just replacing them for 2 weeks! And i havent driven the car except around the block to test if its working, All four plugs have rusted.. Which could show water is getting into the head / cylinders... ideas?!?!

-Coil, Leads, Spark plugs, Dizzy + cap, Fuel filter, checked fuel lines.

Idea's people.. Could it be the throttle body?
No error codes..

there are various valves and sensors in your thriottle body that culd be coverd or filled up with dust.
go to repco and grab some throttle body cleaner. with the throttle body on and the intake pipe off, open up the throttle and spray a whole lot of that stuff in, spray it round the butterfly, start the engine up. it probably wont start up first time but it will start. a heap of white smoke will come out, this is normal. then with the engine running spray some more stuff in there. the engine might stall, just start iut back up again. run the engine till the white smoke is no more and yeah see if that make a difference

if that doesnt do it pull your throttle body off and give it a good clean. be carefull round any sensors :)

The only things on the trottle body are a manual adjuster idle screw valve, cold start idle up and PS idle up. Oil breather also spits out just before the TB. Unless someone screwed with your TPS or idle stop position I dont know how a trottle body could cause those symptom.

Either replace the entire crank angle sensor, not just the 'dizzy' or check the loom. If its throwing 13 just check the 4 wires going from the crank angle sensor to the ECU, they go straight to each other. Replacing the cap or rotor an't gonna do shit if you've already done it 4 times :?

what gas you run in it.

Were the spark plugs rusted, or were they just orange? (ie lean)
