Worth boring out a 4age block to 82mm?

Postby ATAl » Sun Mar 19, 2006 4:08 pm

I'm in the process of putting together a new 4age and aiming to get 300 flywheel hp out of it.

Obviously this will be turboed.

Now my question: Would boring out the block 1mm in the aim of adding a bit more displacement (bit more torque and turbo spooling a wee bit earlier) be worth while? Or will this weaken the block to much?

I need to buy new pistons and get the block honed anyway, so the amount of work / money won't be too different either way.

So, any ideas?

When i bought my pistons they only had 82mm ones off the shelf, for standard or 81.5mm, it was like 200usd extra, so I thought hell yeah go extra 20cc's

Performance wise, wont really make any noticable difference i dont think, except that the clearances will be perfect, where as standard bore they may be a bit loose.

So it was worth it for me, and i suspect for you, it will be also, depending on the kms and condition of your bores- if your gonna get it honed anyways, go 82 i reckon, up to you :)
