Supercharger clutch pulley

Postby Pelo » Tue Mar 28, 2006 9:43 pm

Who knows how to get the clutch pulley off and disassemble it on an SC12?
The bearing is making a horrible noise, only when the clutch is disengaged. It needs replacing before it seizes...!
Would it be worth swapping the pulley for the smaller one off an AE92/101 supercharger?

Have not been inside one myself,

but if it's anything like an A/C clutch ( which is looks like it is)

if it's only noisy when it's engaged it's not the pulley bearing,
it's inside the supercharger itself.

Checked the oil level in it?

Oil is brand new and not leaking. The bearing only rattles when the sc is disengaged, including at idle - on boost it makes no unusual noises.

Sorry misread the disengaged bit.

Does it have the cover over it like the AE101's or can you see thye centre?

The centre of the pulley? Yeah you can see it. As the pulley rotates and the stator shaft slowly follows at idle, you can hear the bearing "rattle... rattle... rattle" as the shaft "turn...pause...turn...pause"
Sort of hard to explain!

They are easy to do but need to take the s/c off to do it
If it has the cover over the clutch 1990 onwards take the 4 little bolts off and remove it. You will now see the clutch with a small bolt in the middle remove that and pull the centre out watch for any washers and shims there will probably be one
You will now see the bearing with a circlip on it take the clip off and pull the pulley assembly off
Now press the old bearing out and new one in and reassemble should take you 3 hours or so all up the blower has one pipe along the back which is a bit hard to get at i have done a few and they arent to bad

They are the same as air con pumps clutches so pull and old one of those apart for practice if youy have an old one around.
