Electricial Problem with fan and Aircon

Postby BZR4AGE » Fri Apr 28, 2006 2:37 pm

Hi there guys, I actually posted this before, but no one seemed to know the solution so I thought I should Try again

My car is 1998 AE111 Levin BZR

The problem is with the fan and aircon controls.

1. When I drive, sometimes it suddenly changes temperature to hot, This happens not just with aircon on, but with aircon off. Even when the fan is off, u can still feel the hot air coming out
2. When I change the temperature to hot, then back to cold, it will work fine, but after a few minutes it switches itself back to hot.
3. Sometimes when I choose Cold, or Hot. i.e. 18 for cold, or 32 for hot. Both selection blows hot air out. BUT if i choose 25, it blows cold air.
4. I have took the control off and checked and it is actually not controlled by wire, it is all electronicly controled
5. I have checked the air temp sensor underneath the steering wheel, and it seems to be fine and all connected
6. Checked all fuse
7. Checked the actual temperature control under the bonnet. (at first I thought it was that, but when i did further tests, it seems to be the Controls fault)

The question now is, What else I shd check, or is it 100% the control's fault that its buggered? If so, Anyone know where or who in auckland or else where wrecking a BZR? I have checked pre-facelift BZG, but they are controlled by wire, so no use. I need something from a facelift BZR or BZG.

Below is a pic of the controls from the Levin Manual

mine(in a 01 corolla), if set to "auto" will try to maintain 21C(as far as I can tell), however I'm more of an 18 type of guy(eek, that sounds dodgy).

maybe auto keeps triggering?

yea. its changing from cold to hot even when it is set to cold. and I have actually tried disconnecting the temperature sensor in the cabin, but still doin gthe same, so the last thing to cry would be the actual control for it, if that still dosen't work. well i don't know what to try next LOL

Maybe you have a faulty valve letting the water through the heater core. I.e its letting hot water leak through.

Its under the bonnet.

Not too familiar with ae111's but its usually where the water goes through the firewall to the heater core

Hope this helps
