Aircon pump removal

Postby Caveman » Sun May 07, 2006 3:43 pm

Engine is 4age

If I wanted to remove the aircon pump do I need to get a pully to replace it or is it possible to just use a shorter belt

What have you guys done

Cheers

I'm just using a shorter belt, asked at repco for the '4age belt with no aircon or power steering' and it did exist.

hey

yeah i just measured up how long the belt needed to be, and then got the belt to suit
it was just right, i couldnt put it on properly, but got it on most of the way and then cranked the engine a couple of times and sure enough, it went on mint.

but i have found out since then, that you can use the existing tensioner by turning the bolt upside down.

cheers

Further to this... has anyone removed the aircon compressor off a 4agze and kept power steering??
When in doubt, down and out.

Yup :)

Moved the p/s pump to where the air con used to be (at the bottom, had to do that to clean the turbo), then I made basically a wedge/brace to hold the pump in the right place to put tenison on the belt.

To tighten it, i loosen the bolt, lever the pump down then tighen it. Works ok, soon see what the cert man says though :)
