power steering heavy

Postby mjrstar » Thu May 18, 2006 5:03 pm

My g/f has an ae111 corolla and the steering has got heavy lately i have checked the usual stuff like belts, power steer fluid, tyre pressure and there is no abnormal noise from the pump either.. but the stering is still heavy. does anyone know if there is a filter or something that could be blocked that could cause this problem??
suggestions welcome
Thanks.

Pop off the tierods and spin the struts by hand to make sure the balljoints and strut mounts are ok, if fine turn the rack lock to lock to make sure its not binding up. If ok then the pump may need attention.

If the fluid level is ok then normally this points to a faulty pump.

cheers for that guys. i guess that's an easy way to see if it's a mechanical binding or a tired pump..
