Re-Built T50 Issue.............

Re-Built T50 sitting behind Blue top 4AGE, selects fine through 1 - 5 under load however when changing down from 5th to 4th and decelerating i.e. lifting right foot, box jumps out of gear, does not do this in any other gear other than 4th.

Thoughts are a possible syncro issue, which if it is makes me wonder about the rest of the re-build, could be something could be nothing.

Has anyone else encountered this issue before or something similar?

when you say rebuilt.... what was actually replaced?

was told bearings, syncro's & seals.

Didnt see the actual rebuild myself and I'm not going to name names cause then it will just turn in to a "I had this experiance with that company" but its not a fly by night company as you know from other posts

Is the rubber boot around the gearstick putting pressure on the gearstick that forces it out of gear...
I'm presuming that this is an engine/gearbox transplant job?
I have had a similar problem with my racecar... difficult to get into 3rd gear sometimes - fixed now (I hope).

Not the I could see at time of putting the box in there, but will have this re-checked just to be safe. (see comment below about quick shifter)

Yes & No, had to rebuild the blue top as it run a bearing on number 2, ended up replacing crank (slight crack), number 2 con-rod, all bottom end bearings new gaskets etc.

The replacement re-built T50 (20 spline) was brought in and swapped for the existing T50 (22 spline) which had major internal issues. At the same time a quick shift selector was added which has an additional base plate that raises it about 10 or so mm which I had to cut the trans tunnel to ensure clearance for the bolt in the bottom right hand corner (direction from sitting in drivers seat)

I have had a similar problem with my racecar... difficult to get into 3rd gear sometimes - fixed now (I hope).

Was your issue due to pressure being applied by the boot on the gear stick? If so I assume that removing that pressure resolved it?

I'm no t50 expert but could it be the detents & springs on the selectors are in wrong or worn, maybe the quickshift is a lil extra weight up top on the lever. Have you tried the quickshift before without problems???

Nah, this is the frist time the quickshift has been in with this box, in fact this is the first time this box has been in at all & I dont haver to original shifter to try bugger it

Generally speaking on RWd boxes if we've had problems with either jumping out of gear of sticking in gears it been the following.

Worn or bent selectors
Worn or incorrect detents or not strong enough springs
Too much weight on the gear lever
Worn ball/bushes in the gear lever/gear change mechanism

I'd be keen if possible to try another known good lever first & see if that fixes the problem, if it does then you've got it solved & need to look at fixing the lever you have. If it doesn't fix the problem then I'd be guessing you'll need to pull the box out & have a look inside.

my w55 box jumps out of first.

It's away getting repaired at the moment so i'll see what we find with mine and let youy know,

( althought it could just be the years and years of jaming it down tom first for hairpin turns at high speed)

Cheers for the info & yeah trying another lever is the first option, no point in pulling a box apart if you dont have too.
