4agze wont rev over 2500

Postby XSVWGN » Wed May 24, 2006 2:00 pm

well the wagon has been off the road for nearly a year now and i really want it going. It starts, the timing is correct and all the piping is ok etc but... it wont rev over 2500rpm? any ideas?

Its very frustrating i have to walk everywhere and i have a $10,000 sitting in the garage

When it gets to 2500 rpm, what do it do?

Its almost sounds like a really bad limp home mode on the ecu, but i don't think limp home mode on toyota's is that low? (the rpm limit).

Checked for fault codes?

Yea sounds like its in limp mode. Is the engine check light up?? How is it running?? Rich?

Cheers

Sounds more of a timing issue. Limp home mode doesnt restrict you to 2.5k.... not in the machines I've seen with a engine warning light on.

What exactly does it do? Take forever to hit 2.5k? Rev build slowly? pop? burp? fart? knock? tick? Smell like Revheads goats?

... tell us more!

i was bout to say that

have you made sure that your cam timing is spot on?

or if you have the crank angle sensor in the right place
been there done that

cause i had the cam timing off by a wee bit and the crank angle sensor all wrong
it would rev but to about 3 then it would chuck all its toys out of the sand pit

re check everything

both the timing on the crank andgle sensor and crank timing are right. It revs to 2500 them with the accelerator down it churps....'revs to 2500 then dies to 1000ish then up to 2500 again. The check lights in the dash are not coming on. Possibly a wireing fault in the dashboard. After a few minutes with the car on it dies. Its really $&#$% annoying.

Any1 know wot could be wrong?

mmm, sounds a bit like mine. Im starting to see many posts about 4agze right about now and there electrical problems. Sadly mines still at the garage after over a month! And i know its going to be one expensive repair job... What he has found however has been everything from low voltage to presumably the fuel pump relay which caused it to intermitantly cut out, I think that was caused by someone doing bad wiring somewhere. The map sensor earth aparently had a bad connection, and now hes found low voltage to the fuel pump...

Symptoms were randomly spluttering and then stalling, engine light did come on however. This was an extremely intermittant problem however.

I guess you have tried resetting your ECU by taking off the battery? Usually puts it back to normal for atleast the 1st minute.

Coff... choke....

Postby jondee86 » Fri May 26, 2006 11:26 pm

Assuming that the fuel circuit wiring in an AE92 GZE is similar to an
AE92 NA, then the fuel pump gets 12 volts from the Circuit Opening
Relay. The COR gets 12 volts from the EFI Main Relay, which in turn
gets 12 volts from the battery.

There are two coils in the COR. The first one is energised when the
key is in the "On" position. You should hear the COR (and the EFI Main
Relay) click, and the fuel pump running. If the pump is not running,
then try to confirm you have an operational pump.

The second coil is activated when the key is in the "Start" position.
Disconnect the starter solenoid wire and turn the key to "Start". You
should hear the COR click and the fuel pump running.

Easy enough to pull the COR and see what voltage you have on the
pins. Either way, 0.4 volts at the pump won't do anything.
