brake booster

Postby fxgt race » Fri May 26, 2006 7:41 pm

the car is an ae82 with its original brake booster.my new engine has arrived and is a blacktop and the booster pipes only run off no1 and no4 throttle bodies, the problem is that it doesn't have the suction to run the booster, maybe. Is a booster out of a ae101 different and works more efficiently, the brakes have been bleed and the pedal is still spounge.

Brake pedal feel (long pedal, spongy, short pedal, firm) can be affected by a number of things.
Often the feel will vary from model to model and make to make but should be fairly similar within models of the same type and year.
If the brake booster is not getting enough vacuum the brake pedal will tend to feel short and firm and need a lot of pressure on the pedal to get the car to slow down let alone stop!
If you have been bleeding the brakes etc. you probably are used to the pedal feeling short and firm due to the engine not running while you bleed the brakes.
When you start the motor and then feel the brakes, the pedal will feel longer and softer.

Factors:
leak in a brake line
leak within the master cylinder
air in brake lines
tapered brake pads
worn caliper guide pins
worn/loose wheel bearings
brake pad knock off

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!
